Interested students should simply let the front desk know that they are there for SLSS drop-in, and they will be directed to the correct room. They've conducted many student appointments and SmartPen demos this week and are happy to help out any students preparing for midterm exams, so don't hesitate to drop by!

Welcome Back and the Weekly What's Up at GUTS!

Welcome back everyone! The semester is finally really underway, and we've got some exciting new things happening at GUTS! For the rest of the semester, you can check back every Thursday for updates on the upcoming week's activities!

But first, a quick note:

McBurney Study Skills has moved from the Middleton Building to their new location at 702 W. Johnson Suite #2104, right by the new Admissions Office.

On to the fun stuff!

Academic Match is well underway and is accepting both tutors and tutees for spring!
We always need more tutors, especially in subjects like Chemistry, Econ and Stats, so don't hesitate to stop by if you want to help. You need to have received a B in the class you want to tutor and be able to make a two hour a week time commitment. Not bad for the satisfaction of helping other students succeed, right? You can sign up on our website or drop by our office!

Conversational English had their kickoff last week! It was a ton of fun for everyone, with cake and the opportunity for attendees to meet new friends and learn about different cultures (and cake). Tonight's Conversation Hour will focus on Valentine's Day, with the opportunity to make Valentine's Day cards, frost yummy cookies, and learn about the holiday and its history. Don't miss out! Come to the CCE (under Gordon Commons) from 6-8 pm!

In addition, CE is hosting a Refer a Tutor Raffle from now to March 10! And who doesn't love a good raffle? Here's the deal:

For every tutor you refer that CE can match, you will receive one entry into the Refer a Tutor Raffle! All you have to do take a minute to tell someone to join the fun. Anyone involved in any GUTS program is eligible, so don't delay!

Foreign Language Learners needs tutors! Are you a native speaker of a foreign language or know someone who is? We need people to lead weekly conversation hours for students learning a language who want a little extra help or practice! Interested? Sign up on our website or drop by the office at 333 E. Campus Mall #4413!

And last but not least, Study Skills is starting weekly classes next week! Need more help than just one appointment can provide? Now you can get help every week. Come learn about new techniques for time management, test-taking, staying on track for classes, concentration, note-taking and more! Swing by the office and sign up, classes start February 24th.

McBurney is also starting a weekly SLSS “drop in” session from 2:30-4:30pm on Thursdays. This is for students who would like to get quick study skills help without making an appointment, collaborate with other students, or simply “check-in” and make a plan for the upcoming week.

That's it for this week! Don't forget to check back every Thursday for updates on what's happening at GUTS (you can also check our Events Calendar) and we can't wait to see you around!
